Every NIL deal starts with a question nobody asks out loud: is this person who they say they are, and can they sign? Know Your Athlete (KYA) is NIL33's answer, built so the answer is checkable without exposing anyone's documents.
What it checks
Eight private steps: profile, consent, identity (through a vetted vendor that holds the documents; not yet connected, and the site says so), role evidence (a roster or official page), representation (self, guardian, attorney, licensed agent, organization), wallet binding (one gasless signature), a .nil namespace, and the signed agreement. Only chosen fields ever publish.
What a brand sees
Badges, not documents: identity verified, role verified, authority verified, wallet claimed, agreement active, disclosure active, review due. And a signed record from nil33.com/api/v1/verify/name.nil that any system can check against a public key. "KYA Verified" appears only when every required check is complete.
What a parent gets
Control. Under 18, the parent or guardian is verified first, before any identity check on the minor and before any agreement can activate. No profiles under 13. Nothing about a minor goes to a vendor without an adult's consent.
What it is not
Not a government ID system. Not an NCAA eligibility determination. Not a background-check guarantee. Not legal representation. Every status display carries the sentence: verified by NIL33, not endorsed by a school, league, or governing body.
